"A Date With Judy" Silly
Originally uploaded by ACTORTX
ACTOR's presentation of "A Date With Judy" has finally come to a close. Opening night was a packed house. Our audience was very generous with their laughter. We even had a couple share their 55th wedding anniversary with us. We were honored!

Thank you to everyone who came out to see our little play. We always hope we brightened your weekend.

On a personal note, to the actors of "A Date With Judy": You guys are my family. I had a blast!

Much love,
Eric Fulton

Judy in "A Date With Judy"

Judy and Mitzi

---Interview---

ACTORTX: What do you like about the character you are playing? How is it being lead?
Amanda: Judy is an very passionate 16 year-old who loves to be center of attention. When her heart is set on something, she is going to get it, no matter what lengths she has to go to. If you ask my parents, they might tell you otherwise... but I promise, I was not like that when I was a teenager. I don't think I have ever wanted anything as much as Judy wants to be queen.
At first, I was nervous about being lead. I had never participated in theatre before ACTOR's Christmas play last year. But with Judy's character, you can't help but be in the spotlight.
ACTOR: Very true. What has your experience been with ACTOR so far?
Amanda: The people involved with ACTOR are some of the funniest, most supportive people I've ever met. It's always a good time with ACTOR!
ACTOR: YAY! Finally, is there anything you would like to say to the readers of our blog?
Amanda: Come see our show, I promise you'll laugh! We've been working really hard, and we only have one weekend left!
ACTOR: Thanks Amanda.

Mitzi & Mrs. Foster in "A Date With Judy"

---Interview---

ACTORTX: What do you like about the characters you are playing?
Joan: Mrs. Foster is a great Mom and a good wife. I enjoy her range...from scolding Randolph, to empathizing with Judy, to cherishing her husband.
Mitzi is a zany character and a lot of fun. Her part is a stretch for me. It's been a LONG time since I was a teenager and I was never a zany one. I can, however, relate to her long legs.
ACTOR: What has your experience been with ACTOR?
Joan: The friendships I have enjoyed through ACTOR are irreplaceable. One of my favorite parts of ACTOR is the time we spend backstage before performances. That's when the actors finally get to know each other on a personal level. Before that, we're so focused on our lines and stage directions, we don't get a chance to learn about each other outside of ACTOR.
ACTOR: Is there anything you would like to say to the people reading the blog?
Joan: Share the joy that is community theatre! Really, for the price of a ticket, you just can't beat the entertainment value.
ACTOR: Thanks, Joan!

Steve: I like him because he shows a great range of emotion. He can be fun and kinda goofy, but then he gets to really blow his top. He seems very real to me.
ACTOR: And what has your experience been with ACTOR? Has it been weird? Interesting? Unique?
Steve: All of the above. It has been a lot of fun.
ACTOR: How long have you been with ACTOR?
Steve: Seven years.
ACTOR: Is there anything you would like to say to the people reading the blog?
Steve: Stay tuned and be sure to come out see each and every show, its guaranteed to be an experience you won't forget.

ACTORTX: So what do you like about your character, er characters?
Julie: I like them both. Eloise is kinda spunky, so its fun to play her. And then Susie is well she is unique.
ACTOR: How is she unique?
Julie: Well, she's kinda a tom-boy. For her age, 11 year old girl, some of the things she says is pretty fun.
ACTOR: What has your experience been with ACTOR?
Julie: It has been fun, a learning experience, and I have definitely enjoyed it.
ACTOR: Great! And is there anything you would like to say to the people reading the blog?
Julie: Come see our show, you will laugh, I promise!

ACTORTX: So, what do you like about your character?
Eric: Well, its fun to play a 14 year old boy with a crazy sister.
ACTOR: And what is fun about that?
Eric: I get to play with bugs, a frog (named Pedro), and even a kite!
ACTOR: I see. Next question: What has your experience been with ACTOR?
Eric: Well, it has been a wild ride. I helped start ACTOR in 1999 with my Mom and Dad. So, ACTOR is pretty dear to my heart. We really wanted to bring something to the community that they could trust would be fun, funny, and family-friendly. I think so far we have been successful. Going on almost 11 years now! So, you could say we are an overnight success.
ACTOR: Indeed. Finally, is there anything you would like to say to the people reading our blog?
Eric: First off, thank you for showing an interest in what we do. And I hope to see you at one of our performances. Everyone has put a lot of work into their parts, be it the character they play, costumes they pick out, or working on those pesky lines. So, come on down and experience some family-friendly fun here in Rowlett!
ACTOR: Thanks Eric.
Eric: No, thank you.

Lyle Bradley as Delivery Man
(photo is him doing lights and sound for "A Date With Judy")

---Interview---

ACTORTX: So Lyle, what do you like about the character you are playing?
Lyle: It's short and sweet....and I um, didn't have to die.
ACTOR: Have you died before?
Lylie: Not on stage.
ACTOR: A little inside?
Lyle: A little inside, everytime I go out there. But this is the first.
ACTOR: The first time on stage?
Lyle: Yes this is my first time out there on stage. I'm EXCITED!
ACTOR: Really? Are you enjoying it? What does your character have to do?
Lyle: I'm deliverying a package and trying to stay away from Hannah.
ACTOR: And whose Hannah? Is she a bad gal?
Lyle: She has a bad attitude, so I'm afraid she going to do something with that rolling-pin of hers.
ACTOR: Oh, I see. Second question, what has your experience been with ACTOR?
Lyle: It has been very rewarding. It's a very stress relief program for me. After a hard day, this is the way to relax.
ACTOR: Oh ya? So, like other people might relax at the pool, you come out and do a show...So what else do you do for the show?
Lyle: Lights and sound. That's my way of brighting the day and bring sound to a quite spot.
ACTOR: I hear ya. Have you had any interesting experiences with the lights and sound? Maybe something funny?
Lyle: Yes, I've had a couple of meltdowns where I couldn't stop certain sounds from happening on stage. As the play kept going, it kept repeating over and over again. I was slowly melting down in my seat. But after the fact, it was all pretty funny.
ACTOR: Sounds fun. Finally last question, do you have anything you want to say to the people who are reading this blog?
Lyle: Please come out and see for yourself what it's all about and I'm sure you will enjoy it.
ACTOR: I'm sure they will, thanks Lyle.

ACTORTX: What do you like about your character?
Lisa: I like Barbara.
ACTOR: How come?
Lisa: She is a 16 year old, kinda frilly, frivolous, little girl in the 1940s. So, it's fun! It is definitely different from my last character.
ACTOR: What was your last character you played?
Lisa: That was Savannah. And she was a very um, how should I say this, amorous... with... the... gentlemen. She was a married woman (Southern bell) who was trying to kill her mother-in-law.
ACTOR: Wow! So totally different from Barbara.
Lisa: That's right! It feels like I'm almost multiple-personalities.
ACTOR: That's great!
Lisa: Yes!
ACTOR: Moving on, how has your experience been with ACTOR?
Lisa: It has been a great experience! I have loved it. It is something I never thought I would do, act on stage. But I've completely enjoyed it. The first night when you get up in front of the audience and they start laughing, it is the best feeling in the world! I love doing it.
ACTOR: Is there anything you would like to say to the people who are reading the blog?
Lisa: Make sure you come out to one of the performances. They are a lot of fun. Family-friendly and hilarious. Nothing sad. Come down and have a great time.
ACTOR: Thank you, Lisa!

Mr. Martindale in "A Date With Judy"

Harry Huttash as Mr. Martindale
(The gentleman sitting down)

---Interview---

ACTORTX: What do you like about the character you are playing?
Harry: Well as a matter of fact, it reminds me of someday ME!
ACTOR: Really? So your going to be a Broadway producer.
Harry: Yes I've given it some thought, after taking this part and finally memorizing at least 25% of my lines. I thought maybe perhaps I should change directions in my career.
ACTOR: Wow! That is amazing! So ACTOR might be a jumping point for ya?
Harry: No doubt about it. In fact, I'm just ready to take the leap any second.
ACTOR: Well, as long as its not a cliff, right?
Harry: If it is, we'll be sure to use one of Randolph's kites.
ACTOR: What has your experience been with ACTOR?
Harry: I have to be quite honest, it has absolutely been the joy of my life the last few weeks. I had no idea that a group of people could come together and have so much fun just providing for the community.
ACTOR: And finally, is there anything you would like to say to the people reading the blog?
Harry: Yes, please come and watch our beautiful little play. I will guarantee you will laugh, you will enjoy, and have an evening of total satisfaction.
ACTOR: Thank you very much Harry!

Harolyn: It's me. I don't have to act.
ACT: Why is that?
Harolyn: I love to cook, I'm pretty bossy, and I'm sensitve just like the character that I am playing.
ACT: I see. What has your experience been with ACTOR?
Harolyn: I absolutely love it. This is my third performance. I do one a year cause it is very demanding of your time but we make a big family of all the people and it is just a wonderful experience. I would encourage anybody in Rowlett who has thought about this to give it a shot.
ACT: Anything you would like to say to the people who are reading this blog?
Harolyn: Come see the play. I'm going to dance again!
ACT: You are?!
Harolyn: Absolutely! Theres a few of them out there that like to see me jump around.

Oogie / Rex in "A Date With Judy"

Oogie and Judy
Originally uploaded by ACTORTX
Carl Pankratz as Oogie and Rex.
(Gentleman in the white shirt)

---Interview---

ACTORTX: What is it you like about your character? Or rather, characters.
Carl: I play two characters. My first character is Oogie. What I really like about Oogie that he is difficult, because obviously I'm not a 17 year old. And I'm definitly not a Senior in high school anymore, so trying to recreate what those emotions were and remember what it was like to be 17 was kinda difficult ESPECIALLY the voice at that age. But I like the challenge, its been fun playing a teenager again.

The other character I play is Rex. I like Rex because he is more refined. He is the guy who is more focused on his career and his academics to get into a good school. I can relate more to him than to Oogie. But again, it's still challenging.
ACT: What has your experience been with ACTOR? Have you enjoyed it? Has it been rough?
Carl: Its been amazing! I wasn't an actor before. I took only half a semester of "Art of Acting" in college and that's all I've had. I've been in three plays now and I've been blown away be each character that I've played. Heck, I've been Elvis! Who really gets a chance to play Elvis?!
ACT: I remember the hair! (http://www.actortx.com/ the middle picture)
Carl: Ya! Its hard not because you have to memorize scripts, but it's taking the scripts, the barebones, and trying to add to it. Whether its the dance that Elvis did or trying to jazz up Oogie's song, all while dating Judy.
ACT: Oh, I hear you have a singing part in this...
Carl: I unfortunately do, I hope that doesn't kill our audience, but if they stay long enough its worth it. Just to let you know, don't be prepared to be awed by my singing abilities.
ACT: And finally, is there anything you would like to say to the people who are reading this blog?
Carl: Everybody is an actor, you just may not know it. And Amateur Community Theatre of Rowlett is living proof that you have abilities that you are not aware of and sometimes it just takes the right organization to bring that out of you.
ACT: Thanks for your kind words, Carl.

Becky: It has been so rewarding and so much fun.
ACT: It has?!
Becky: Why yes, it has.
ACT: Well good, good. I had one other question, but I'm trying to remember what I asked...Ah yes, is there anything you would like to say to the people reading the blog?

ACTORTX: What is it you like about your character?
Carol Prano: She has absolutely great lines in this play and is very funny.
ACT: What is the hardest part about this character?
CP: She has to use grammer that is not correct, which is very difficult for me.
ACT: How come?
CP: Because I was an English History Major in college.
ACT: That makes sense. I know that you are new to ACTOR and we were wondering what you thought about the whole expereince. Have you enjoyed it so far?
CP: It is actually more fun than I thought it would be.
ACT: Oh really?
CP: And I just love watching everybody else on stage. The camaraderie is just really wonderful. The people who have been acting for a long time are really very nice to the newcomers like me and they make you feel like you can do this.
ACT: Anything else you would like to say to the Bloggin' World out there?
CP: Come see "A Date With Judy", its a great play.
